In this guide I explain how to repair damaged keys on a MacBook Pro keyboard (unibody style).
I thought that it was because of crumbs, so I took off the key, but there was nothing visible. I tried number lock and tried to use them, to no avail. I also used the keys on the number pad when I was using number lock, and though the left and right keys (4 and 6) were working, the up and down (8 and 2) keys were not working.
In this particular case I’m fixing a MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop keyboard with two damaged keys but same steps will apply to MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook Pro 17-inch models.
I’ll take spare parts for repair from a damaged keyboard I have laying around. You can buy spare keys here: https://ebay.to/2vkvcTS
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys. If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue: Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences. The backlit keyboard is attached to the top of the metal causing inside at the Mac. Due to this, you face macbook air keys not working issue in a very quick time. But yes wait a minute!!! As you may prevent the system from causing macbook air keyboard problem troubleshooting issues. Just turn your system off and let it air out for some time at. Apr 30, 2018 Use the compressed air to spray the keyboard in a left-to-right motion. Rotate your MacBook onto to its right side and spray the keyboard again, from left-to-right. Repeat with the MacBook rotated to its left side. At the very least, using compressed air rules out any crumbs or bits of debris being the cause of the Apple keyboard not working.
If you have a few keys missing or damaged, it might take sense to buy the entire new keyboard instead of individual keys and use it as a donor.
By the way, in one of the following posts I will show how to replace the entire keyboard on a MacBook Pro 13″, 15″, 17″ unibody.
As you see, I have two damaged keys on the MacBook Pro keyboard.
The left arrow key missing just the cap.
The bottom arrow key missing the cap, key retainer (hinge) and silicone plunger.
You will need needle nose tweezers to handle small parts.
Let’s fix them!
STEP 1.
Remove the key cap from the damaged (donor) keyboard.
In order to do that insert a sharp object between the key cap and key retainer and lift it up.
The key will unsnap from the retainer.
STEP 2.
The left arrow key cap removed.
STEP 3.
Turn the key cap over and inspect small plastic key holders on the bottom side of the key. Make sure they are not damaged.
These holders secure the key cap to the retainer (hinge).
When you install the key cap on the retainer, make sure to seat the side with holders on the edges of the key fist.
In my case the left side of the key cap should be seated properly.
STEP 4. Triple chance online.
Seat the side with holders on the edges of the key fist. Make sure the holders engage with the retainer.
STEP 5.
Samsung smart file transfer. Push on the button until it snaps on the retainer.
STEP 6.
The left arrow key has been repaired.
Make sure it moves freely.
STEP 7.
Remove the bottom key from the donor keyboard.
Inspect the bottom side of the key, make sure that holders are not damaged.
STEP 8.
Carefully remove the key retainer from the donor keyboard.
STEP 9. How to turn on camera macbook pro.
Inspect the retainer. Make sure it’s not damaged.
STEP 10.
Here’s the tricky part.
Very carefully separate the silicone plunger from the donor keyboard.
Try to remove it from the keyboard as clean as possible, so the bottom side of the plunger remains as flat as possible.
You can use a very small knife to separate the plunger from the keyboard.
STEP 11.
On my target MacBook Pro one of the metal hooks was bent so I corrected the problem.
STEP 12.
Turn the silicon plunger upside down.
Apply a small amount of super glue on the plunger edges. You need the glue just on the edges.
The first time I wasn’t careful enough and the glue filled up the plunger. I had to use another one.
STEP 13.
Seat the plunger in the right position on the target keyboard and let the glue dry.
At first, I tried applying some pressure on the plunger but it didn’t work, because the plunger just kept moving around.
Finally, I just reapplied the glue and let the plunger to seat by itself for about 10 minutes without applying any pressure on it.
STEP 14.
Install the key retainer on the target keyboard.
STEP 15.
Install the bottom arrow key as we did in steps 3-5.
Make sure the key moves freely.
The keyboard has been fixed!
If you have multiple damaged keys, it might sense to replace the entire top case assembly with the keyboard. Replacement top cases available here: https://ebay.to/37cRuEg
Last night a friend of mine spilt a very small amount of soda onto my macbook. I immediately wiped it off and powered down the computer. Today, when I turned the computer back on, everything works fine, however, a few of the keys are sticky (the space bar, arrow keys, shift button, and 2 others). Is there anyway to remove these keys to try to clean them? This is the current generation Macbook.
How much is a macbook air hard drive. The LEFT and DOWN directional arrows on my Mother's MBP just stopped working. All other keys work fine. Does this generally mean I will need to replace the top case? Has anyone out there experienced keys not working, then working again? Could it possibly be the connection to the logic board? Or some dust in an undesired location?
You move the mouse over to the scroll bar, favorites bar, minimize, etc. and the mouse is stuck in the wrong icon, be it the text pointer, hand pointer, window resize pointer. when it should be the arrow. It is such an obvious bug and I can't believe Apple hasn't noticed this.

I spilled some water on my laptop this morning but it wasn't a lot and seemingly nothing happened. Then several hours later all of the sudden my delete key and arrow keys are not working. I can only assume this has something to do with the spill. My MacBook Pro is over 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired. I definitely can't afford a new one or expensive repairs. Is there anyway to change the function of my keys? In other words can I change say one of my shifts or command keys into a new delete key ?
I can't backspace anymore. And just now, as I type this, I noticed if I press delete I -forward- delete, and I can still highlight text and delete it that way. How do I change the delete key to backspace? Also, my arrow keys used to move the cursor within text. now it just scrolls the page up and down.
How can I disable the (Command + 'Left or Right Arrow') Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.
I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.
I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.
I got a mac mini back in february, i think it has a 1 year warranty on it but the thing is i bought the keyboard seperately so im afraid i may need a new one if i cant fix this. Yesterday my right and down arrow keys stopped working. I checked under them and they look perfectly fine, they just dont respond.
I just KNOW there is a keyboard shortcut for going back to the previous page without going to the arrow but cannot find out how to do it.
I must have hit some button which caused it to disappear. how to get it back?

I would like to gain back some space on my Macbook's HD. I would like to:
1) Burn all the photos and videos on DVD's. Re this, once burned, I'll delete them from the HD, via iPhoto.(show files, etc.) What would happen with the events? Say that, in the future, I want to import 20% of the photos with their corresponding events (already deleted from iPhoto): is this feasible?
2) Is there an app within Leopard OS (not Snow Leopard) that would allow me to change photo and video size, all at once or not. (batch processing?) Videos and photos where imported within iPhoto app.
I tried a hard reset on my 2014 mac book pro ret display, but it did not open up the space on my computer after I exported all of my photographs onto an external hard drive. How do I get my space back on my computer?

I just tried to back up my Mac Book Air and I use OS X 10.7.3.
I got a message which said that there was not enough space on my external hard drive. The message said that I needed 50 GB and the external drive only has 43 of space. Note, when I check out the hard drive, it says: 'Available 43.63 of 249.93'.
The sole purpose of my hard drive is for back up purposes. So, there isn't anything other data or information on the drive.
I have a macbook Mid 2010 13 inch.
I tried to Partiton my hardrive for bootcamp which was going fine. i then accidentally cancelled it in the middle of partitioning and now its saying that there is only 87GB of memory left

Especially when I tap at the extreme left or right. Space does not always happen. No nothing has been spilled on the keyboard.

I have an iMac with 38 GB Hard Disk.I have Mac Leopard 10.5.8 installed.
The available free space( when I click on Hard Disk symbol and then information) shows 11.5 GB and 26.5 GB used space.
When I manually add up what I have on all my files it comes to only 21.5 GB Where is the other 5 GB?
I just bought a Macbook Pro 15' i7; the only problem I've had with it is this: every now and then my Expose/Space/Screen Corners stop working, and the only solution I can find is to just restart my computer (which thanks to the i7 is only about 20 seconds anyway ). Does anyone here have any advice on this?
OS X 10.5.6, it's a .sparsebundle file. Total capacity 30GB, taking up 30GB on disk. There are only 10GB of files on the image. Trash is empty. I've zeroed my hard drive, and the disk image, and checked Whatsize.
I have had my Simple Drive 500GB External Hard Drive for some time now but I have noticed recently that whenever I delete a file from it the hard drive doesn't give the space back.
For Example: I Have 143.95GB on the External Hard Drive free but when I delete a 20gig file it doesn't give the space back on the External Hard Drive, it stays at 143.95GB. Also, this happens with many of my flash drives etc.
Timeline won't back up because it says there is not enough space on my external drive. This never happened before.I have 10.6.8. I just restored my new hard drive from Timeline. It was an easy restoration. The first time I backed up on Timeline, it said there was not enough space. I do have my external drive partitioned. I thought old backups were deleted when the space was needed.
Should i delete my previous back up from TC to save space?
20 gigs of my HDD is missing. I had a 20 gig torrent, but I deleted that (it wasn't fully downloaded), and the only other thing I have downloaded was (accidently) the 1.1 gig Garageband extra sounds etc and the Safari 4 update. Any ideas?
I film plays and put them on to dvds, well when I burn them as it is burning it slowly takes up memory. Does any one no how to get that space back? I do a lot of plays and it seems that it has taken quite a bit of space!
Why is there such a memory loss on hard drives? By this I mean, if you have a 160 gig HHD - you are only presented with 149 gig.
Or my 250 gig only shows 232 gig - so where has the 18 gig disappeared to?
